Sync Yandex Calendar on Android and iPhone via CalDAV

Cover: how to sync Yandex Calendar on Android and iPhone Apps & services

Sync Yandex Calendar with your phones and computer, and you get one calendar on Android, iPhone and desktop: an event created on the phone shows up in the browser and on the second device a minute later. The calendar lives in Yandex, and the phone exchanges changes with it over CalDAV, an open standard supported by DAVx⁵ on Android, the built-in Calendar app on iPhone, Calendar on macOS and Thunderbird.

This is the companion to the guide on syncing phone contacts with Yandex: the setup is the same, only the server and the password type change. Below you will find how to move existing events from Google Calendar and iCloud, connect Android and iPhone, share a family calendar, back everything up and fix common errors. A separate section covers moving an iPhone from iCloud to Yandex completely, contacts and calendar together. Steps were checked in October 2026 against the Yandex help pages, iOS 27 and the current DAVx⁵ release.

How to sync Yandex Calendar: overview

How to sync Yandex Calendar: importing events from Google and iCloud, the caldav.yandex.ru server, Android via DAVx5 and iPhone via CalDAV
Old events are moved once, then every device syncs with caldav.yandex.ru
  1. Move your existing events once: import from Google Calendar or iCloud by link or with an .ics file.
  2. Create a Yandex ID app password of the Calendar type. The one you made for contacts will not work here.
  3. Connect your devices to caldav.yandex.ru: DAVx⁵ on Android, built-in settings on iPhone and Mac.
  4. Create new events in the Yandex calendar, and they appear everywhere.

When you sync Yandex Calendar, changes flow both ways: an event added on the phone goes to Yandex, and an edit in the web app comes back to the phone. Importing from Google or iCloud, however, is a one-time copy. Events you add to the old calendar later will not reach Yandex on their own, so after the move create everything new in Yandex only.

Before you move anything

  • Check the time zone. Open Yandex Calendar, click the gear icon and check the time zone in the settings. A wrong time zone can shift imported events by several hours.
  • Decide which calendars to move. Personal and work calendars are worth importing into separate Yandex calendars; holidays and sports schedules are easier to add again.
  • Skip birthdays. Google builds them from contacts. Once you move your contacts to Yandex, birthdays show up in Yandex Calendar automatically.
  • Move contacts first. Meeting invitations will then pick addresses from your Yandex address book.

Move Google Calendar to Yandex

There are two ways. A link is quicker and needs no downloads; files are handier when you have many calendars.

With the secret iCal address

This is the method described in the Yandex Calendar help. It is easiest on a computer.

  1. Open Google Calendar. In the left panel, hover over the calendar, click ⋮ → Settings and sharing.
  2. Scroll down to Integrate calendar.
  3. Next to Secret address in iCal format, click the copy button and confirm the warning.
  4. Open Yandex Calendar. In the Calendars section of the left panel, click Add and switch to the Import tab.
  5. On the By link tab, paste the address, choose a new or existing calendar and click Import.

Anyone with the secret address can see every event in that calendar. After the import, go back to the Google Calendar settings and click Reset next to the field so the old address stops working.

With an .ics file

  1. In Google Calendar, click the gear icon → Settings → Import & export → Export.
  2. Google downloads a .zip archive. Unpack it: there is one .ics file per calendar.
  3. In Yandex Calendar, click Add → Import → From file, pick the file, choose the target calendar and click Import.
  4. Repeat for each file. A separate Yandex calendar for each Google calendar keeps things tidy.

The import is not instant: according to Yandex it can take a few hours. If some events are missing, wait before importing again, or you will end up with duplicates. If you are moving away from Google entirely, see also how to migrate email from Google to Yandex.

Move your calendar from iCloud to Yandex

The Calendar app on iPhone has no Export button, but it can share events by link. You only need a computer to download the file.

  1. Open the Calendar app and tap Calendars at the bottom.
  2. Tap ⓘ next to the iCloud calendar you want to move.
  3. Turn on Public Calendar, tap Share Link… → Copy. Emailing the link to yourself is handy.
  4. On the computer, replace webcal:// at the start of the link with https:// and open it in the browser. A file with your events downloads.
  5. If the file has no .ics extension, rename it, for example to icloud.ics. Yandex only accepts files with that extension.
  6. Import the file into Yandex Calendar: Add → Import → From file.
  7. Back on the iPhone, turn Public Calendar off. The link stops working right away.

Repeat for every iCloud calendar. Calendars other people shared with you do not need moving: their owners can share them with you in Yandex the same way.

From a Mac

In Calendar on the Mac, select the calendar in the sidebar, then choose File → Export → Export… You get an .ics file that imports into Yandex just like the Google one.

App password for Yandex CalDAV

To sync Yandex Calendar, your regular Yandex ID password will not do: CalDAV needs a dedicated app password. The Contacts-type password from the contacts guide will not work either: each type has its own scope.

  1. Open Yandex ID → Security → App passwords.
  2. Choose the Calendar type and give it a clear name, such as “Calendar iPhone” or “DAVx5 Pixel”.
  3. Click Next and copy the password right away: it is shown only once. If you closed the window, delete the password and create a new one.

Usually the password works at once, but Yandex says it may take 2–3 hours to become active. If sign-in fails, double-check the username and wait. Create a separate password for each device: if a phone is lost, you revoke only its password. Note that all app passwords are reset after account recovery or after “Sign out on all devices”, and then every device has to be reconnected.

Sync Yandex calendar on Android with DAVx⁵

Android has no built-in CalDAV, so you need a client. As with contacts, the best option is the free, open source DAVx⁵ from F-Droid; a paid build with the same features is on Google Play. Installing F-Droid is covered in the F-Droid 2.0 article, and the DAVx⁵ first-run wizard with permissions and background sync in the Yandex contacts guide. For the calendar, make sure you grant calendar access in the wizard.

  1. On the DAVx⁵ main screen, tap Add account (the “+” button).
  2. Choose Login with URL and user name.
  3. Enter the base URL https://caldav.yandex.ru, your full email address as the user name and the Calendar-type app password. Tap Login.
  4. Keep the account name equal to your email address: calendar apps use it as the meeting organizer address. Tap Create account.
  5. Open the account, go to the CalDAV tab and tick the calendars you want on the phone.
  6. Tap Synchronize.

If DAVx⁵ already syncs your Yandex contacts. That account talks to carddav.yandex.ru with a Contacts password, so the calendar goes into a separate account: different server, different password. If DAVx⁵ says an account with that name already exists, add a note to the name, such as “john@yandex.com calendar”.

If DAVx⁵ finds no calendars with the base URL, use the full account URL from the table above: https://caldav.yandex.ru/principals/users/your_login@your_domain/.

Which app shows the calendar

DAVx⁵ does not display calendars itself: it puts events into Android’s system storage, and any calendar app reads them from there. Google Calendar, Samsung Calendar or the open source Fossify Calendar from F-Droid all work.

  • In Google Calendar, the Yandex calendars appear in the side menu under your address. If they are missing, open Settings and make sure the DAVx⁵ account is not hidden.
  • In Fossify Calendar, turn on Settings → CalDAV sync and tick the Yandex calendars.
  • When creating an event, pick the Yandex calendar, not “Phone” or Google. Most apps let you set a default calendar in their settings.

In the DAVx⁵ account settings (gear icon at the top), set the calendar sync interval. Events from the phone go to Yandex immediately, while changes from the web app arrive on the interval or when you tap Synchronize. For a calendar, 15–60 minutes is sensible. If sync keeps stopping, turn off battery optimization for DAVx⁵.

Tasks and the DAVx⁵ task support option are not needed here: this guide is about calendar events. Using DAVx⁵ with other services is covered in Sync Google contacts and calendar with DAVx⁵.

Sync Yandex calendar on iPhone and iPad

To get Yandex Calendar on iPhone, you do not need to install anything: CalDAV is built into iOS. The steps below were checked on iOS 27; iOS 18 uses the same path. On iOS 17 and earlier it starts with Settings → Calendar → Accounts.

  1. Open Settings → Apps → Calendar → Calendar Accounts and tap Add Account.
  2. At the bottom of the list choose Other, then Add CalDAV Account.
  3. Enter the server caldav.yandex.ru, your full email address as the user name and the Calendar-type app password. Set the description to “Yandex Calendar” so you do not confuse it with iCloud. Tap Next.
  4. The iPhone verifies the account. Leave the Calendars switch on and tap Save.
  5. Open the Calendar app → Calendars at the bottom. The Yandex calendars appear as a separate group named after the description.

If the iPhone says “Unable to verify account name or password” or cannot connect over SSL, open the new account → Advanced and check: SSL on, port 443, account URL https://caldav.yandex.ru/principals/users/your_login@your_domain/. If that does not help, try the user name without the domain and create a fresh app password.

Three settings to change right away

  • Default calendar. Settings → Apps → Calendar → Default Calendar → pick the Yandex calendar. Otherwise new events, including ones created by Siri or from emails, keep going to iCloud.
  • Sync range. On the same screen, Sync is set to the last month of events by default. Choose “All Events” to see your full history.
  • Refresh rate. Settings → Apps → Calendar → Calendar Accounts → Fetch New Data. Set the Yandex account to “Fetch” and choose every 15 minutes at the bottom. CalDAV has no instant push, but pulling down the event list refreshes it manually.

The Reminders app is a separate story: it works with iCloud and is not moved by this setup. For deadlines you must not miss, create events with an alert in the Yandex calendar.

Moving an iPhone from iCloud to Yandex: contacts and calendar

If you are moving everything at once, for example on a family member’s iPhone, follow this order. It avoids duplicates and nothing gets lost.

  1. Make copies. Export iCloud contacts to a vCard file and get .ics files for all calendars as described above. Keep them on your computer.
  2. Move the contacts to Yandex Contacts and connect CardDAV, step by step in the guide on syncing phone contacts with Yandex.
  3. Import the calendars into Yandex Calendar and check in the browser that the events are there and the times did not shift.
  4. Create two app passwords: Contacts and Calendar. Name them after the device.
  5. Add the CardDAV and CalDAV accounts on the iPhone.
  6. Make Yandex the default: Default Account in Contacts settings and Default Calendar in Calendar settings.
  7. Test sync with a test contact and a test event, as shown below.
  8. Only then turn off iCloud for contacts and calendars: Settings → your name → iCloud → See All → Contacts and iCloud Calendar. iOS asks what to do with the data on the iPhone. You can remove it from the phone: it stays in iCloud, and you already have copies.

You do not have to turn iCloud off completely. If you leave it on, the iPhone shows both groups of calendars, but new events go to Yandex because it is the default. The old events then exist in two places, though. To avoid confusion, hide the iCloud calendars in the app: Calendars → untick them.

A shared family calendar in Yandex

If both partners keep their calendars in Yandex, sharing takes a minute in the web app.

  1. In Yandex Calendar, hover over the calendar, click ⋯ → Open settings → the Access tab.
  2. Start typing a name or address in the access field; suggestions come from your address book.
  3. Choose the permission level, from viewing public events up to editing the calendar. A shared family calendar needs full editing rights.
  4. Save. The other person gets an email and has to click Accept on a computer: invitations cannot be accepted in the mobile version of Yandex Calendar.

A handy approach is a separate “Family” calendar with full access while personal calendars stay personal. The accepted calendar appears in the other person’s calendar list. If it does not show up on the phone, refresh the list: on the CalDAV tab in DAVx⁵, or by pulling down the calendar list on iPhone. Notification settings are not shared, so each person turns on alerts for themselves.

Yandex calendar on a computer

The simplest option is the browser at calendar.yandex.ru. If you prefer a desktop client, Yandex documents two options:

  • macOS. Calendar → Calendar → Add Account → “Other CalDAV Account…”. The user name is your full address, the password is an app password. If sign-in fails, choose the Advanced account type: server caldav.yandex.ru, path /principals/users/your_login@your_domain/, port 443, SSL on.
  • Windows and Linux. Mozilla Thunderbird → new calendar → On the Network, user name is your full address, location is https://caldav.yandex.ru, then “Find Calendars” and the app password.

Create a separate Calendar-type app password for the computer too.

How to check that sync works

  1. Create a test event for tomorrow in the Yandex calendar on the phone.
  2. Open Yandex Calendar in the browser: the event should appear a few seconds after sync.
  3. Change the event time in the browser, then refresh the phone: tap Synchronize in DAVx⁵ on Android, or pull down the event list on iPhone.
  4. If the change came through, delete the event on the phone and make sure it disappears in the browser too.

Back up your Yandex calendar

Sync is not a backup: an event deleted on the phone is deleted in Yandex too. Before switching phones, updating the OS or reconnecting an account, save the calendar to a file.

  1. In Yandex Calendar, hover over the calendar, click ⋯ → Open settings → the Export tab.
  2. Copy the iCal link and open it in a new tab: the events are saved to an .ics file.
  3. Repeat for each calendar and keep the files off the phone.

To restore, use a regular import: Add → Import → From file. Do not share the iCal link: it exposes every event in the calendar.

If you sync Yandex Calendar instead of relying on Google or iCloud, the main advantage is the same as with contacts: the calendar works the same on Android and iPhone and does not tie you to one ecosystem. You can switch from Android to iPhone or back without exporting anything: just connect the same account on the new phone.
